The Taranaki Regional Council is involved in planning and preparing for a whole range of emergencies in the region and for co-ordinating risk-reduction, readiness, response and recovery.
The Taranaki Civil Defence Emegency Management Group has responsibility for civil defence emergency management in the region and is administered by the Taranaki Regional Council.

Emergency Preparedness/Awareness Survey and Focus Group, January 2010
In January 2010, the Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management Group carried out a survey on public awareness of and readiness for civil emergencies in the region. The survey included a phone and internet questionnaire, followed up by detailed discussions with a focus group.
