Bus services

The Taranaki Regional Council co-ordinates and funds six-day-a-week bus services in and around New Plymouth, and weekly services in South Taranaki and Inglewood.

The scope of these services is outlined on this page. Detailed information on routes, fares and timetables is available on a dedicated bus website administered by the Council.

New Plymouth, Bell Block, Waitara, Oakura

Comprehensive scheduled weekday and Saturday public bus services in New Plymouth, Bell Block, Waitara and Oakura bus services are operated by Tranzit Coachlines under the City Link banner and under contract to the Council.

This contract came into effect on 1 July 2008 and is for three years, with a two-year rollover possible.

Tranzit Coachlines also operates a number of school services under contract to the Council. These operate five days a week during school terms, and can be used by the general public as well as students.

South Taranaki

Once-a-week return bus services under the South Link banner link Opunake with Hawera (via Kaponga and Eltham) and New Plymouth, Hawera with Manaia and Opunake, and Waverley-Patea with Hawera.

These services are run by Hawera Taxis (Waverley-Hawera, Hawera-Manaia and Opunake Hawera) and Pickering Motors (Opunake-New Plymouth).

Inglewood

A once-a-week bus service between New Plymouth and Inglewood is operated by Tranzit Coachlines.
