Save money on school bus fares with a SmartCard multi-trip (40-trip) pass

Available from 6 September 2010

The passes can be loaded into existing SmartCards. Costs:

$58 (New Plymouth)
$68.40 (Bell Block/Omata)
$76.80 (Oakura)
$89.60 (Waitara)

These passes are available only for student travel to and from school on school buses or CityLink commuter services.

Note: School year passes for 2010 will continue to be honoured but no further year passes will be issued

General notes:

  • Children aged under 5 travel free.
  • Children aged 5-15 travel for a child's fare.
  • Secondary school students aged 16-19 years (wearing school uniform) may travel to and from school on a child's fare.
  • Secondary school students aged 16-19 years, not wearing school uniform, may travel on a child's fare with sufficient ID.
  • Beneficiaries must use a community services card as ID.
  • Tertiary students must use suitable ID.
  • Passengers aged 65 or over, and without a Super Gold card, qualify for a Senior Citizens fare. Please show the driver your ID.
  • Super Gold Card holders travel for free on off-peak services. See info below.
  • For details of eligibility for Access fares, see info below.

A free transfer ticket is available for passengers who wish to transfer directly from one route to another within the hour. Please ask the driver for a transfer  ticket. You must keep your ticket and present it to the next driver. Note: the second trip will be free, and must be taken within one hour from the time the first ticket was issued. This excludes a return trip on the same route.

All WITT students and staff travel free with suitable ID.

SmartCards

Want discounted fares? Want to avoid the hassles of carrying cash? SmartCard ticketing is available on all services.

The initial cost is $15 — $5 for the card and $10 worth of travel to get you started. The minimum recharge amount is $10.

Cards can be recharged on the bus (cash only) or by visiting Tranzit Coachlines at 15 Sunley Street, New Plymouth.

Super Gold card. Super Gold card for veterans.

SuperGold Cards

Holders of SuperGold Cards can travel free on all off-peak CityLink services (that is, services running between 9am and 3pm and after 6.30pm weekdays, and all Saturday services).

SuperGold Card holders can also travel for free on most South Link and Inglewood-NP bus services.

The SuperGold Card is available to all eligible New Zealanders aged 65 or over and those under this age who receive NZ Superannuation or the Veterans Pension. For more information, go to www.supergold,govt.nz.

Note: SuperGold Card holders must still pay fares for trips before 9am or after 3pm, but many will be eligible for the reduced Senior Citizen fare (see table at  top of page).

Access fares

Under the Access scheme, discounted fares are available for people with permanent or temporary disabilities, enabling them to travel on CityLink services within New Plymouth, Bell Block,  Oakura and Waitara.

The scheme is for people with any permanent or temporary disability that prevents them driving a private vehicle. The following types of disabilities could entitle you to a discounted fare: amputees, arthiritis, asthma, blind or partially blind, cancer, hearing impaired, epilepsy, head injury, intellectual disabilty, mental health, MS, Parkinsons, stroke, temporary broken bones and more.

When users of the scheme get on a CityLink bus, they should present their eligibility card (if they have one) to the driver and ask for an Access discounted fare, or hand the driver their  Access ticket.
