Before a disaster strikes, there are things that you can do to be prepared.

Understanding the hazards and being prepared will reduce the impact and help you survive. The main hazards in Taranaki are:

• Public health emergencies including pandemics

• Floods

• Earthquake

• Volcanic eruption

• Structural failure of a dam, large building or other major facility

• Essential utility failure - power or water, for example

• Storms and tornadoes

• Exotic animal disease

• Hazardous substances - spillages or leaks
