Environment

The Taranaki community is very proud of the region's unique landscape and high quality environment and is very committed to protecting and enhancing our natural resources.

The Taranaki Regional Council is responsible for managing the coastal, air, freshwater and land resources of Taranaki under the Resource Management Act. The Council carries out a range of monitoring activities. Monitoring is the planned and repeated measurement of particular parameters, which indicate the quality or state of our environment.

The analysis of the data provides information for many purposes. Monitoring is used to evaluate the environmental performance of consent holders or to provide information about the Taranaki environment and assess the Council's performance in resource management.
