The Taranaki Regional Council views environmental education as a key tool for promoting sustainable management of the region's natural resources.
Council encourages schools to include environmental education within their curriculum programmes.
Environmental education involves:
- education in the environment
- education about the environment
- education for the environment
Through environmental education individuals will develop the understanding, skills and attitudes to better use and protect our natural resources.
The Council's Education Officer provides resources, training and support for teachers to implement environmental education programmes with their classes. The programme focusses on providing practical action-based learning experiences for students.
